Course Overview

Mandy Brass, MSc MBAcC, Lead Acupuncturist at Dimbleby Cancer Care, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, shares her experience running a busy group acupuncture clinic within an NHS cancer centre. Drawing on her research comparing group and individual acupuncture for people affected by cancer, she shows that both formats achieve similar clinical outcomes, with group treatments offering additional psychosocial benefits such as connection, support, and reduced isolation.

Blending modern research with classical Chinese medicine, Mandy explains how regulating qi flow within the jingluo (meridian system) can relieve pain, fatigue, anxiety, and other cancer-related symptoms. She reflects on how the collective qi field (qi chang) in group settings may strengthen zheng qi (correct qi) and calm the shen (spirit). Through practical case examples, Mandy illustrates how group acupuncture can be safely and effectively integrated into oncology care—expanding access, improving patient wellbeing, and aligning TCM principles with NHS practice.

This class was originally presented as part of the TCM Academy’s Annual International Oncology Acupuncture Online Symposium – the leading global event in this field.

Held each year at the beginning of autumn, the symposium brings together TCM practitioners, medical doctors, researchers, policy-makers, and integrative care providers from across the world.

Its purpose is to create an international platform for sharing the latest clinical insights, research, and professional developments in oncology acupuncture, offering participants access to the highest standard of education and collaboration in integrative cancer care.
