Course Overview

Deepening Your Expertise in Ovulation Disorders

Session 3 of the Gateway to Women’s Health & Fertility series sharpens your clinical skills with a deep dive into ovulation disorders—centering on the complex and often misunderstood Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). This session builds seamlessly on the foundational concepts from Session 1, guiding you into more nuanced territory where physiology, pathology, and patient education intersect.

Master the Follicular Phase: The Yin Engine of Fertility

At the heart of this session is the follicular phase, the cornerstone of reproductive health. You will explore its pivotal role in ovulation from both Chinese and Western medical perspectives—examining how Yin, Yang, Qi, and Jing work together to prepare for ovulation. You’ll gain a clear understanding of why follicular health is the bedrock of fertility and how its disruption manifests in clinical practice.

Understanding Ovulation Disorders: Patterns, Causes, and Challenges

We dissect the most common ovulation disorders, including:

  • Irregular cycles
  • Oligo-ovulation (infrequent ovulation)
  • Anovulation (absence of ovulation)

You’ll learn to trace these issues back to key etiologies such as PCOS, thyroid dysfunctions, stress impacts, premature ovarian insufficiency, and metabolic imbalances. Special attention is given to identifying subtle clues in a patient’s history that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A Holistic Approach

PCOS is explored in depth as a multifaceted disorder that bridges endocrine, metabolic, and emotional health. We review the pathophysiology, Western diagnostics, and, crucially, its energetic patterns—enabling you to build individualized, layered treatment plans that address both root and branch.

Tools for Clinical Success

This session is rich with practical strategies:

  • Acupuncture protocols, herbal formulas, and bodywork techniques
  • Guidance on educating patients about cycle tracking and fertility awareness methods (FAM)
  • Case study that brings theory into real-world application, especially for PCOS

Prerequisite: Why You Must Complete Session 1

To gain the most from this session, you must complete Session 1, Achieving the Optimal Conditions for Conception.
In Session 1, we laid the groundwork for understanding the natural menstrual cycle’s physiological and energetic rhythms. This foundational knowledge is essential to grasp the complex pathologies addressed in Session 2. Without a clear understanding of the healthy, balanced state of the menstrual cycle, the nuances of diagnosing and treating conditions like dysmenorrhea and endometriosis will be difficult to fully comprehend.
