Course Overview

Dr Libin Jia, former Scientific Program Director at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM), presents an insightful overview of today’s global acupuncture research landscape. Drawing on his leadership in cancer genomics, natural-products research, and integrative oncology, Dr Jia discusses how scientific evidence is transforming clinical understanding and shaping modern approaches to integrative cancer care.

Linking biomedical data with classical Chinese medicine principles, he explores how acupuncture regulates qi, jing, and mai in ways that parallel neuro-immunological and endocrine mechanisms identified in current research. His presentation bridges East and West, offering a clear, research-based foundation for safe and effective oncology acupuncture — reflecting the TCM Academy’s mission to advance integrative medicine through education, evidence, and collaboration.

This class was originally presented as part of the TCM Academy’s Annual International Oncology Acupuncture Online Symposium – the leading global event in this field.

Held each year at the beginning of autumn, the symposium brings together TCM practitioners, medical doctors, researchers, policy-makers, and integrative care providers from across the world.

Its purpose is to create an international platform for sharing the latest clinical insights, research, and professional developments in oncology acupuncture, offering participants access to the highest standard of education and collaboration in integrative cancer care.
