Jason Smith BIO

I am a Spanish American physiotherapist (San Rafael Ciencias de la Salud, Madrid), TCM teacher and practitioner based in Madrid. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration (Saint Louis University, Missouri).

I first came into contact with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in 2002, completing my training in 2007 after an advanced study trip to China.

In 2008, drawn to the aesthetic side of TCM, I travelled abroad to learn the Facial Rejuvenation technique, which I have been practicing ever since.
This technique, still novel in Spain at the time, led to being interviewed on the Spanish national television program España Directo and Madrid Directo, as well as teaching courses in Barcelona, Lisbon, Palma de Mallorca, and Gran Canaria amongst others.

In 2009, I began my journey as a TCM teacher in several schools across Spain, and I am currently considered a leading figure in the field in Spain.

In 2010, I had the great fortune and honour of beginning a close professional collaboration with Giovanni Maciocia, one of the world’s leading figures in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A special relationship quickly developed, leading me to become his close collaborator and official representative in Spain. It was Giovanni himself who, in 2012, wrote the foreword to my book Acupuncture Points: Practical Location and the Meaning of Their Chinese Names.

At the beginning of 2015, the second Spanish edition of his book The Foundations of Chinese Medicine was published, and I had the privilege of translating it in its entirety. In this regard, Giovanni wrote in the foreword:
“I could not think of a better person than Jason Smith to translate my book. Jason is an excellent professional with a profound knowledge of TCM. He has done a wonderful job translating The Foundations of Chinese Medicine.”

In 2014, I came into contact with Dr. Richard Tan and his Balance Method, a technique I began applying with great results and have been practicing ever since. This led me to meet Robert Doane and organize his seminars in Spain, where I finally discovered the missing piece in the TCM equation: pulse diagnosis. This method I practice is based on Jimmy Chang’s Pulsynergy system.

At the end of 2015, I launched a new project alongside Giovanni Maciocia: the Giovanni Maciocia International School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The school began with online courses and webinars, and in October 2016 it expanded into in-person teaching based in Madrid. In just two years, more than 200 students enrolled. Sadly, Giovanni passed away in 2018, and with his passing, the school came to an end.

Currently, my school operates under the name Jason Smith MTC, with our headquarters located in Madrid, where we combine teaching with clinical practice.
At the school, I integrate all the styles of TCM I have studied over the past ten years: distal acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, the Balance Method, pulse diagnosis, and herbal medicine. The result is a living, serious, and scientifically-influenced form of TCM—modern in its approach and, most importantly, truly effective.

Pulse diagnosis and scalp acupuncture have led me this year 2025 to travel and teach in Maastricht (Netherlands), Lugano (Switzerland), and Bologna (Italy).
